Back in February 2007, Kiwiburn moved to the North Island and became a standalone event. A time of great change and growth, the theme was MEGAmorphosis, which gave rise to MEGAmorphosis Man featured on all our posters. Burning Man has announced its theme for 2019: Metamorphoses. “A celebration of change, and an exploration of uncertainty.” Read more about the theme here.

Every year Burning Man Arts issues Honoraria grants for the purpose of partially funding specific art projects for installation at the Burning Man event in Black Rock City. The Giant Weta was a 2016 recipient, and saw 40 Auckland Burners create and build a flame throwing steel weta then head to the playa with it! The 2019 grant cycle opens 16 October, 2018 (PST). The LOI submission deadline is 15 November (PST). More information here.
