Round up your Regionals…

Dec 3, 2018

Cool conversations currently occurring concerning community and collaboration… and…

…Like this one, on how Afrikaburn is managed. For the geek in you!

A burning book – by South Afrikan photographer Simon O’Callaghan. Any profits go to Afrikaburn.

Burn2… the world’s first and only official virtual Regional event. Yep, a cyberburn. Thus year it took place at the beginning of November; participants create their own avatar through Second Life (an entire virtual universe that exists year-round) and attend the event from the comfort of their own home, or where ever they are. It’s been going for about 15 years (wtf?)… This year the temple ‘burn’ had to be postponed due to technical issues (?!) and the Decompression (theme: Skin Burn) took place before the official burn had ended (because why not) – from their website: “Our decompression event consists of a reprise Man Burn with everyone ‘skinnied down’ to their very lowest lag forms” (I don’t even know what that means) ?!?! Honestly, people think of everything.

…There were once two teeny tiny burns that started their lives on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Being so young and so close together, the teeny tiny burns decided in their second and third years respectively they would join forces to make… a Slightly Bigger Burn. Creatively named Wildeburn/Sentella, an innovative combination of their previous monikers, it took place 24 – 28 October 2018 and was home to some 200 teeny tiny humans. Judging by the photos on their website, everyone smiled a lot and was appropriately happy with the collaboration.

…ART ART ART… applications for a Global Art Grants are now open:

“This program funds highly interactive, community-driven works of art that prioritize community involvement in their development, execution and display. We fund art that is accessible to the public, civic in scope and prompts the viewer to act.”

Read more, check eligibility, and apply.

…talking about connections, community and change, how bout this? Interesting discussions about what Burning Man does to people, their brains, and then their lives. Could this apply to Kiwiburn, and YOU?

…and finally, music for your lazy day… and music for your up-and-at-em. Git it!
