Kiwiburn ‘25 survey results!
Each year we ask you to fill out a survey. You do this for the chance to go in the draw for a ticket, but we do it to learn more about the Kiwiburn community.
So what happens once you hit submit? First, we keep your data safe (promise). Then we put it to work. This year we’ve crunched the numbers and found some interesting things to share about who we are, together.
This is the first of a few bite-sized looks into the results, and if you’ve got deeper questions, anonymised data is available on request.
Who are we?
We are 85% from New Zealand!
Unsurprisingly most of us hail from somewhere in Aotearoa.
When overseas Burners find their way to Kiwiburn, they most often arrive from the USA, the UK, or across the ditch in Australia.
We are about 33!
Most Kiwiburners are established adults (heh). The median age in NZ is 38, so we skew a little younger. How we really differ from the default population is the tails of the distribution.
- Only 6% of us are 25 and under
- About 6% of us are 55 and over
So where in NZ do we all call home?
We are 66% from either Te Whanga-nui-a-Tara / Wellington or Tāmaki-makau-rau / Auckland
But Wellingtonians are by far the most likely to attend.
The top 5 most popular ‘burner-style’ or ‘burn adjacent’ events in NZ are
- Ignition
- Splore
- Theme Camp Fundraiser
- Shipwrecked
- Twisted Frequency
But I will note that 64 of us attended the NZ Cat Fancy National Cat Show!
(Data analysts disclaimer, I cannot be held responsible for people’s wild spelling, which may skew results. How many ways are there to spell ReGen? I counted 17. Don’t even get me started on AUM.)
Burns past present, near and far!
We are evenly split between those who have been before and first timers.
Predictably the more recent the burn, the more people filling out the survey remember going
The top 5 most attended official overseas regional burns are:
- Nowhere
- Nevada Regional burn (historically known as Burning Man)
- Burning Seed
- AfrikaBurn
- Blazing Swan
We love a good graph—don’t you?
If you’d like to see yourself (anonymously!) featured in future charts, trends, and data fun, make sure to complete future surveys. The more insights you share, the more creative, useful, and engaging our graphs can be!
