The Temple at Modifyre (the Queensland Regional burn) was built using deconstructed pallets turned into boxes using wooden dowel instead of screws or nails. The entire Temple did not contain a single piece of metal, just wood and some glue, perfect for simplifying the burn clean-up, and a positive spiritual way to build a temple.
Most of the wood was cut and assembled into flat pack pieces back in Brisbane with final assembly done on site which worked well. The pre-build team were Brisbane-based Burners, and the on-site team were all New Zealanders, led by Emma Neakous, creating a very special experience for them all.
For the build, Emma purchased 6mm and 8mm dowel plugs and lots of PVA glue, and every joint had to be drilled and glued with the thinner size allowed for a joining edge on with some of the thinner pieces of timber. It worked well mostly, the Temple was enjoyed and honoured by all, and the build method was a huge success.
Congratulations to all involved.
