This is a gentle plea and earnest request for a little h.e.l.p at Black Sheep Ranger HQ. You’ve all seen the news: ‘Kiwiburn needs vols’, ‘do it year-round, you’ll be better for it’ etc.
Well, have we got the compromise for you: The Rangers need an experienced Ranger (well, ideally a flock of them) to keep everything working throughout the Burn, this would title you as our Support Ranger/s. We’re not asking for year-round support, we’ve got that covered.
What we’d like is someone(s) to step up a little to help support the training sessions at the beginning of the Burn, support the Rangers throughout the Burn, and just generally help the Rangers Range. It’s like an operations manager role, without the management part. It’s like being a Ranger shift lead or on-call expert a few times throughout the Burn, to help educate and keep everything flowing. Good news, there’s (probably) no admin tasks involved.
Basically, we’d like someone with a pretty good idea of how Rangering works to make themselves a little more available to ensure the Ranger leads can deliver training and maaaaaybe get a little time to enjoy the Burn themselves.
You will be perfect for this role if you are an experienced Ranger and:
- Have been looking for a relatively low-commitment way to commit just a little more
OR
- Have an increasingly unignorable feeling that it maybe just might be time to do a little more for some of these critical Burn functions, coupled with the realisation that if it’s not for you, some poor soul will spend yet another Burn lingering near-ish to Rangers HQ for the majority of their time
