No camping in the Forest in 2017

Jan 20, 2017

The long awaited and very crucial decision regarding Forest camping has just been made. Extensive work in the Forest continues to be done, though with the extremely strong winds on site the past few weeks (and likely to continue) it has been increasingly hard to accurately assess the situation. With only a few spaces where the risk is minimal enough to allow camping, and for the sake of safety, piece of mind, and fairness, there is NO CAMPING IN THE FOREST!

This decision has not been made lightly and Kiwiburn understands this may come as a bit of a disappointment for many of you. The work of the arborists and MPW has been thorough and the Ops team has assessed the situation daily, thought long and hard, and feel this is the best and safest decision to make for this year. With the belief a new and beautiful dynamic on the Paddock will create more flow through the festival allowing more Theme Camp and Art interaction through the day.

While some lovely areas have been cleared and deemed minimal risk, there would only be enough spots for 50-150 people at the most. Between designating the few camping spaces, controlling the overflow into hazardous zones, and working out the fairest ways to decide who gets to camp there, it made better sense to leave the Forest for AWAKE AND AWARE use. There will still be Art, games and of course the beautiful river to swim in, but again, the Forest will be for awake and aware use only. Further details of what areas will be open for this use will be announced on Monday.

Bring shade, plenty of sunscreen, pretty parasols, and remember Kiwiburn is what we make of it – let’s make this year even more amazing!
