Before you start playing boot-Tetris, a quick PSA: pack smart, not heavy. That hill on the way out is real, and an over-loaded car can turn your exit into a slow slide in the wrong direction. Bring what you need – just don’t bring everything you own.
One of the 10 Principles is Radical Self-Reliance, so it’s worth checking out the official What to Bring guide on the website before you start packing.
Think water, food, and containers you can actually carry and refill. Add solid shelter, warm bedding, and shade for daytime survival. The Paddock can serve up scorching sun, freezing nights, hectic wind, and, as we saw a couple of years ago, a ridiculous amount of rain and mud, so it’s best to be prepared for anything.
When night falls, lights matter. Headlamps, LEDs, fairy lights – they keep you visible, upright, and help you find your way home, plus they look pretty and who doesn’t like looking at the pretty things?!
Don’t forget the fun: costumes, instruments, and playful offerings that help turn a paddock into THE Paddock. Just keep it MOOP-free – no glitter, feathers, sequins, or anything else that can easily fall off into the grass.
Pack with intention, care, and a little creative flair.
