The Conduct Committee

Oct 6, 2025

In case you didn’t know, we have a Conduct Committee! The dedicated team have put together a wonderful, quick overview of who they are and what they do. So here’s the inside scoop, directly from them.

The Conduct Committee at Kiwiburn exists to support a safe, respectful, and inclusive event. We handle concerns within the Kiwiburn community with fairness, confidentiality, and a restorative justice mindset.

We were established in 2017 after the community recognised the need for a consistent, formal process for addressing incidents and recommending appropriate actions.

Our purpose is to:
• Advise and support people affected by harmful behaviour
• Investigate instances of harm with a view to preventing further harm in the community
• Promote respect, consent, and accountability

We are a diverse volunteer team, representing different genders, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds. We approach each report with care, impartiality, and respect for privacy.

What We Do:
• Advise and support people affected by harmful behaviour
• Investigate instances of harm to prevent further community harm
• Promote respect, consent, and accountability

What We Don’t Do:
• Mediate personal or private disputes beyond the Kiwiburn context
• Replace law enforcement — criminal matters should go to the police

How to Make a Report:
If you experience or witness behaviour that concerns you, please use our official channels:
• Email: conductcommittee@kiwiburn.com to make a report
• If your concern is about the Conduct Committee itself, email: chair@kiwiburn.com

We do not use or encourage Facebook for behavioural concerns. Public threads on social media often become unhelpful or hurtful, and frequently make it harder to resolve the underlying issue. Contacting us directly ensures your concerns are documented and addressed.

How We Work:
We handle each report with care, impartiality, and respect for privacy. Where appropriate, we look for opportunities to address harm through restorative processes — provided all parties feel safe and supported in doing so.

In some cases, we may recommend exclusion from volunteering, leadership roles, theme camps, or events to reduce harm and uphold the Code of Conduct. If an individual is banned, the ban remains in place until they can demonstrate they are safe to return to the community; this is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Whenever possible, the Conduct Committee aims to take a restorative justice approach.

There it is, straight from the source. They are here to help and happy to do so. Thank you Conduct Committee, we appreciate you and everything you do.
