Here at the EFP, we aim to uphold the highest journalistic standards possible, and to be the best news team that we can be.
We strive to bring you the latest, greatest news and keep you informed of what’s happening in the Burn community. Not just because we have to (though we kinda do), but because we want to. We keep our finger on the pulse, and ensure that we maintain constant communication with the Kiwiburn community. We receive a lot of feedback and comments from our readers, mostly in the form of emails (though we do still get the occasional carrier pigeon arriving at our office in the Skytower). More often than not, the mail we receive praises our incredible writing skills, fine looks and charming personalities. However, we also get a fair amount of hate mail. Let it be said, we appreciate all feedback, good or bad.
Since we aim to be the best news team this side of the Rangitikei, we ensure we read every sixth or seventh piece of mail that we receive (the rest of it gets burnt on the Effigy every year, praise be!). That’s just how committed we are to ensuring we listen to the community and our readers.
This week, we received some feedback from some concerned community members, who weren’t all that happy with an article that we posted last week. The article in question was entitled ‘Kiwiburn has too many DJs’. As we understand it, the members who wrote in identify as ‘Disk Jockeys’ or ‘DJs’. They seemed strangely miffed about the new restriction being put in place by the Kiwiburn organisation: from now on, only ‘qualified DJs’ (with a DJ-ing degree from an accredited university) may perform at Kiwiburn. This is being implemented to stem the tide of DJs taking over at Kiwiburn and also to please the last 7 individuals in the community who currently do not identify as DJs. It is because of this restriction that we now have some angry mail in our inbox.
Now, back to the complainants; to ensure these individuals feel that their concerns are being taken seriously, we thought it’s only fair that we include some of their messages below.
Without further ado, here they are:
‘DJ Cuts The Mustard – This new restriction is ridiculous. I spent 3 hours watching Youtube videos learning how to DJ, and now you’re telling me I’m not qualified enough? This is outrageous, it’s unfair!’
‘Concerned DJ -The article wasn’t in 160bpm so I couldn’t understand it, but I’m pretty sure I should be angry about this!’
‘DJ Girthquake – I’m not impressed about this new restriction, but the real issue here is that there’s not enough psytrance at Kiwiburn. Why aren’t more DJs playing psytrance, especially between the hours of 4 and 7am?’
‘DJ Wibbly Wobbly – I couldn’t believe it when I read that only qualified DJs will be allowed to perform at Kiwiburn. What’s worse is that now there’s people trying to flog fake DJ degrees on the Kiwiburn Facebook! This kind of thing seriously affects those of us who have legitimately earned our DJ degrees! It must be stopped.’
Thank you for sending in these incredible responses. We look forward to seeing the rest of the giant pile go up in flames at Effigy burn next year! Remember, we appreciate all feedback on the EFP, good or bad, so please do send us your thoughts. However, please remember we don’t create the news, we just share it!
