Traffic and Arrival Info

Jan 13, 2025

TLDR: don’t be an egg, follow instructions or you may find yourself with a voided ticket.

To ensure our ongoing ability to play on a Paddock in Hunterville and maintain goodwill with locals, Council, and NZTA, adherence to our Traffic Management Plan (TMP) is essential. It’s a privilege for us to be here in Hunterville, not a right, and breaching our TMP could impact our ability to Burn here in the future.

To avoid pissing off the locals, we’ve gotta keep SH54 and SH1 clear. This means absolutely NO PARKING on the shoulders/berms of these roads (red roads on the below map) – it’s illegal unless you’ve broken down – it restricts traffic and endangers other road users. There is also NO PARKING on the layby/rest stop, as this is used regularly by local residents, and NO PARKING in driveways, even if they look like they don’t get used.

The blue road on the map below is a NO STOPPING zone (including overnight) – there will be cones and security – and this will be strictly enforced. Do not try to turn into Cooks Road unless there is a clear space to do so (no asses hanging out over the highways please!).

Priority Lane (PL) is open from 8am on Wed. Now listen up coz this is very very important – Priority Lane is for Priority Lane ticket holders only. If you don’t have a PL pass on your ticket, you’ve gotta wait til 10am for general admission. Not 9:45. Not 9:58. 10:00am.

Please obey instructions given by Traffic and Security teams covering the entry. No if’s, but’s or maybe’s – we will not argue in the middle of the road with participants who think they’re special or know better, and we have ZERO tolerance for abuse to Volunteers and contractors. We’re sure you can find a consenting hippy to have a friendly debate with on the Paddock. If you’re told to turn around, you gotta do it – ignoring this may result in your entry to site being delayed so you can sit on the naughty step and think about your actions, or you could even have your ticket voided and no one wants that.

If you miscalculated your timing and arrive before Gate is open, head down to Vinegar Hill to park up and wait, or pop along to Hunterville for a coffee. If you show up outside of Gate hours (posted in the article below) you will be turned away – you can camp overnight at Vinegar Hill or Hunterville township campground and come back when Gate opens the next day. Security can’t override this policy so there’s no point in arguing with or begging/bribing them. Our Gate Goblins may seem magical, but they need to sleep and eat too!
