So, what’s this all about?

This is a fundraising gig to save one of New Zealand’s most-celebrated sustainable living communities, home to many and a community for hundreds of people across the world, travellers and families alike.

Last month raging, out-of-control bushfires in the Coromandel Peninsula devastated this beautiful and iconic community, one of New Zealand’s longest-standing eco-communities and destroyed several building structures, a workshop and acres of pristine bush, orchards and gardens. Wilderlanders are a determined bunch and aim to re-build what was lost, including their precious workshop space filled with tools and their honey-house, but they will need our help.

Wilderlanders have been growing organic veges and fruit since the 60’s, nourishing the many who have lived and visited over the last fifty years. This 60 hectares of beautiful land is home to scrubland, gardens, orchards, beehives, tipis, houses and, most importantly, people.

So, it is our great pleasure to announce our upcoming Wilderland fundraiser gig, with brilliant live acts, led by Auckland drumming and dance extravaganza Tamani, who will get your booty shaking and your ears quaking. Tamani have been blowing socks off across New Zealand this festival season and they will be supported by funk-punk-folk band Stop the System (originally formed in Wilderland and famed for their quirky costumes and on-set banter and live poetry). Solo performer Aiden Kelly will be performing a sweet-voiced set to warm up our ears, with other acts in the pipeline. There’s going to be a sweet raffle (of course) with things that you actually want to win; there’s going to be delicious kai for sale, and chai for drinkies, made by our very own Chai Wallah, Josh Mainwaring.

Wilderland is a garden that grows people as well as food and this gig is for anyone who has ever been touched by its ethos of healthy and sustainable co-existence with our planet; for anyone who has had their life transformed while learning to grow their own food; been welcomed as a guest with true and wholesome Wilderland hospitality; eaten the sweet, sweet Manuka honey Wilderland is famous for; climbed plum trees in the orchard; harvested avocados; or simply just cared about living on the kind of planet where communities like Wilderland exist.

Wilderland is more than a place; it is an idea. Founded on a vision of harmonious living with the earth and put into practice by community driven sustainability practices, Wilderland inspires us in our living; through growing our own food, through building healthy, resilient communities with the people around us and through dedicating our lives, in whatever way that is, to living a connected life that honours the earth and each-other.

We’d love to see you there, having a dance and supporting this awesome cause with your heart, presence and funding. Bring your loves, your friends, your kids and yourself and let’s dance up a storm as we celebrate one of our favourite places in NZ.

— A raffle will be held with a collection of beautiful art and pottery up for grabs, kindly donated by local potters and artists; so bring a few coins along—-
