Each year, Burning Man releases a MOOP Map which shows the locations, severity, and types of MOOP found on the Playa after dusty participants have all returned to the default world. Leave No Trace (LNT) is an important part of any Burn – especially so for Burning Man – as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) do a Post Event Inspection every year.
In 2019, the inspection resulted in a near perfect score and the greenest MOOP Map they’d ever had. Unfortunately, 2022 ended up being one of the messiest Burns in recent history. Whether this was due to excessive heat, punishing winds, blinding dust storms burying MOOP, early departures, and fatigue, it’s clear that this is a critical moment in Burn history and a call to action is needed to ensure the LNT Principle is given the respect that it so rightly deserves.
