Kiwiburn has too many DJs

Aug 12, 2024

“Kiwiburn has too many DJs!” – the masses cry. We hear you, oh Pilgrims of the Paddock, and we agree.

Year after year, we hear complaints from the community that pretty much everyone at the Burn is now a DJ. Pre-event, we see countless posts on the Facebook page asking how to sign up to play a set. Last year’s survey found how many Burners didn’t identify as a DJ; it was seven.

Enough is enough. To stem the tide of DJs taking over our beloved Burn, we’re putting a new restriction in place.

From now on, only those who have a ‘Bachelor of DJ-ing’ from an accredited University will be allowed to perform. You will need to upload proof of this degree to your Portal by 25 November. There are no exceptions, everyone must upload proof (except for Paige Julia). Those who do not upload proof of their degree will not be allowed to perform at Kiwiburn in 2025, or beyond.

Please be advised, spot checks will take place at the event. If you are performing a DJ set, ensure you have a printed copy of your degree with you. (Ideally framed, and slung around your neck) We advise laminating it, so that your spilled Do-Bros won’t ruin it. If you are found to be performing without your degree on your person, you’ll be sent back to the closest commodified festival where you can enjoy some warm, overpriced beer and cold, overpriced food.

Thanks for your understanding. With your help, we can take back our Burn from the DJs!

We look forward to seeing less DJs at Kiwiburn 2025 and beyond.
