Volunteering for Kiwiburn

Kiwiburn is almost entirely organised and operated by volunteers, without whom there would be no Kiwiburn.

The organisation is in a significant period of change with many of our wonderful Team Leads deciding to step down or change roles. Consequently, we’ll soon be launching a full scale recruitment drive to uncover new leaders who can bring fresh energy and ideas to the table.

Are you one of these people? Have you ever wondered how you can contribute more, if that’s even possible, to your beloved community? Maybe it is time to consider stepping into a Team Lead position! Whether you’re shy and retiring, or loud and bold, there are so many varied roles within Kiwiburn which offer a huge range of skills to learn and develop.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be releasing Job Descriptions and fielding submissions of interest for lead roles. Here are some of the positions that will be available:

  • Admin
  • Depot
  • Leave no Trace
  • Pack Down
  • Town Planner
  • Health and Safety
  • Sanitation
  • Site Manager
  • Event Kitchen

In addition to filling all the vacant lead roles, Kiwiburn has made it a goal for every single Team Lead to have a 2IC.

2ICs perform a critical function. They are there to support and share the workload of the Team Lead, step in if a Team Lead can no longer perform their role, and be the person able to take over when the Team Lead decides to move on. If you don’t feel like the time is right for you to take on the full responsibility of running a team, maybe you could consider learning the ropes in this capacity.

Here are a few of the teams looking for 2ICs in the near future:

  • Admin
  • Electric Fencepost
  • Theme Camps
  • Depot
  • Site Office
  • Leave No Trace
  • Operations (x2 2ICs)
  • Health and Safety
  • Town Planning
  • Site Manager

If being a Team Lead or 2IC sounds like a bit more than you would like to take on, then consider volunteering for a community crew such as Gate, Greeters, Depot or Black Sheep Rangers to name a few. You can check out team descriptions on the volunteer section of the website at any time. Rosters will be open later in the year closer to the event.
