Each year, Burners from across New Zealand and Australia come together for the Burner Leadership Summit (BoNZA), a gathering focused on sharing ideas, strengthening connections, and supporting community-led initiatives. This year’s summit was held in Sydney and included a collaboration with Burners Without Borders (BWB), the volunteer-driven community leadership program of the Burning Man Project.
After reviewing six inspiring applications for the annual BWB grant, BoNZA attendees selected two equally deserving recipients to share the US$1,500 funding pool. Excitingly, part of that funding will be making its way to the north of Aotearoa, where it will support weaving workshops designed to raise awareness of the endangered Pūpūrangi snails. It’s a wonderful example of Burner values in action – bringing together creativity, education, and community care to make a positive impact.
