Join Kiwiburn’s New Sustainability Team

Dec 17, 2019

Kiwiburn acknowledges that a climate and ecological emergency is facing our planet.

Events like ours are impactful on the environment, and as hard as we try, we always leave a trace, it’s just not always a visible one.

We are working on lessening Kiwiburn’s impact on our local and global environment, and so we have formed a team dedicated to the issue of sustainability. We ask you beloved Burners, to please do your part this year and make good, environmentally sound choices when considering your options for travel, food, waste and power.

“He waka eke noa” – Together we are in this one canoe.

Kiwiburn’s new Sustainability Committee
Focused solely on helping make the event become as sustainable and low impact as possible. The brand new Sustainability Committee will be using Kiwiburn 2020 as an opportunity to collect data on various areas which Kiwiburn could improve upon, as well as dishing out educational nuggets of green gold to those who wish to learn more about how to lessen their impact. So if you see the Sustainability Team out on the Paddock, say Kia Ora, and invite them in to your camp to show off how great you all are at recycling.
The newly appointed chair of the Sustainability Committee is Tom, who is an eco-nerd, and he is looking forward to enacting strict totalitarian rule over the event; “if I see one disposable drinking straw… shit will go down”.
Tom is coming up to his fourth Kiwiburn (+1 Ignition). He works for an environmental NGO, helping lead a team of passionate “Zero Waste Warriors,” as well as running a Resource Recovery Depot along with various waste minimisation initiatives.
Kiwiburn is seeking passionate and knowledgeable volunteers to put their hands up to join the Sustainability Team. Email sustainability@kiwiburn.com to get in touch with Tom.
