– Tell us about your role:
Internal comms is about managing the comms across teams internally for the Org and trying to reduce the silo effect that can come from people working hard in their own respective areas! It’s a newly developed role and I’m the first to have been accepted into it, so there’s a lot of room for development and fitting it to suit the needs of Team Leads.
– What made you want to volunteer for a year round role? And what would you say to anyone considering it?
This is not my first rodeo, and in fact is my coming back after slightly less than a year off volunteering year round. Year-round volunteering is my contribution to this event and to the wider community. It’s how I’ve made good friends, it’s how I feel comfortable on Paddock.
To anyone considering it, honestly message someone who volunteers year-round and poke their brain. Better if you can find someone who volunteers in a similar field.
– When you’re not doing KB stuff, how do you spend your time?
You’ll either find me at other festivals/gigs, or at home with my cat, playing video games (currently working my way through Tears of the Kingdom!).
– How did you get involved with Kiwiburn?
My first burn was ’18 and was an incredibly confronting experience. I’d known about it for a few years prior but had been too scared to go by myself – Auckland fire nights (now Auckland Fire and Flow) introduced me to people who were going, and that’s how I ended up going to The Grand Bazaar!
– What’s your favourite thing about being part of this amazing community?
I have met people from all walks of life, all ages, all professions. An incredibly unique bunch of people with incredible talents and gifts that I likely would have never encountered if not for this wacky event.
– What’s your favourite Paddock moment?
So many to choose from…a highlight from the burn this year was the honor of playing on the Fat Owl rig at Tangerine Steeze
– What skills have you learned by being involved with Kiwiburn?
A lot of people management, administration skills, and what it takes to put an event on
– What are you most excited about for Kiwiburn 2027?
I might actually bring costumes?! And potentially have an upgrade to my udder (iykyk)
