In case you’re not aware, Kiwiburn has an Executive Committee, appropriately named ExCom.
This is made up of Kiwiburn’s Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and the Facilitators of the various volunteer departments (e.g. Communications, Theme Camps etc).
ExCom handles the executive functions, such as running AGMs, which are a requirement for an incorporated society such as Kiwiburn. ExCom works with the leads of the 40 or so teams of volunteers which make Kiwiburn run, ensuring they have the people, information and resources they need to function.
They meet every month, to plan the event and to discuss anything of note that’s happening within the various departments.
However, not everything comes to ExCom for decision or discussion. An important aspect of our culture is that there are many decisions to be made and almost all these happen within Departments/teams. While a number of things do come up during meetings, these are raised for general awareness within the Committee, not for ExCom’s input.
You can read more about the organisational structure here.
So, what’s this update for? ExCom takes minutes of every meeting, and these are uploaded (once ready) to a folder that’s available to be seen by anyone in the community. These can be found via the website, or via the link in the EFP (our official Kiwiburn Newsletter).
We recognise that most people won’t remember to view these, so we want to make it easy for you. From now on, we’re going to put out semi-regular updates like this one, so the Kiwiburn community can stay up to date with what’s going on.
State of ExCom
We currently have 2 open roles on ExCom; which are the Community Facilitator, and Theme Camps Facilitator. We are still looking for people to step up into these roles. Bob, our Infrastructure Facilitator, is also stepping down soon, so we will be looking for someone to take that role too.
Noteworthy topics/updates from ExCom meetings
- The KB27 event is going ahead and everything is ticking along nicely
- Conduct Committee Leads join in each meeting and give an update on where things are at with their team
- The Theme Camps team are tracking along well, camps are submitting their applications now, and reserve tickets will be decided on once applications close on 30 August 2026
- Onsite roles will be going live for applications in the near future
- A volunteer filmed some interview style videos of different onsite roles on the Paddock at KB24 These have now surfaced and will be used to advertise/recruit for the roles. They are really well done and do a great job of showing what each role entails.
- The Hunterville site has been hit by some bad weather, some infrastructure has been damaged, the forest is looking a little different than you may remember
- The 2026 Kiwiburn AGM is happening much sooner this year – taking place on 25 August 2026
- KB26 financials are being worked on and are almost complete
