This just in! If you are hip enough to be in Wellington and maybe missing Kiwiburn a wee bit, check this out…
There is a cool weeee arts festival called Lōemis. From their website: “It is our offering towards Maruaroa o Takurua; the winter solstice, which connects with and takes place around the rise of Matariki and Puanga.” They are running heaps of FREE art making workshops and events (and some that cost money).
To top it all off, this 22 June there will be a Solstice procession through town (with participants adorned in masks made at a free one-day workshop), to the site of an effigy which they will then burn – it’s all very cool and very Kiwiburn. Participants are also encouraged to also gift the 3.5m sculpture offerings or items they want to let go of (a la Kiwiburn Temple). Also including, but not limited to; music, fanfare, masked figures and a horde of deep sea fish disciples.
But wait! There’s more! The crew are in need of support looking after the pyre and the burn process, AND someone to light the damn thing (in costume, of course)… if you have experience with these things please get in touch with Eryn.
For more information here is the Facebook event page.
This fantastical event was brought to our attention by an extra special member of the Kiwiburn community – ka pai e hoa! Kia ora for letting us know.
