Burning Man and associated Regional Events base themselves on some fundamental guidelines, or the 10 Principles. In this series over the next 10 weeks we will focus on each Principle in detail.
This week features Principle 6: Communal Effort
This idea centres on the Burn community promoting social interaction, such as organising Theme Camps, Art to be enjoyed by all, or providing entertainment that is accessible to everyone. These collective acts of gifting enforce creative cooperation and collaboration to make the event as participatory as possible, not just for the individual, but also within respective groups or camps. This principle, like most others, is not solely for the event itself, but is supposed to draw wider circles outside of the actual Burn itself. Throughout the year, the community strives to produce, promote and protect social networks established at or outside of the Burn, host events at public spaces such as pre-or decompression parties. The community pledges to create and enable methods of communication that support such interaction, such as via social media groups, neighbourhoods or established connections.
