Kiwi Art Project Chosen for Burning Man Honoraria Grant

Mar 18, 2024

Heading to Burning Man this year? Look out for a giant traffic cone on the horizon! A kiwi made art project will be gracing the Playa, affectionately named ‘Coney McConeface: The Life and Death of a Traffic Cone’. Created by Chris Hankins and his team ‘Conecophany Collective’. The team applied for and have received a BM (Burning Man) honoraria grant, which will help them to cover the costs of bringing their art to the Playa.

As per the BM newsletter, aka ‘The Jackrabbit Speaks’, here’s the lowdown on the BM honoraria program:

The Honoraria Program typically funds 40-60% of proposed project budgets. By not fully funding projects, the program stimulates artists’ creative energy while developing their capacity around fundraising, which generates community involvement and momentum.’

Here’s the description of the project:

Our tallest Honoraria project, “Coney McConeface: The Life and Death of a Traffic Cone” elevates a basic traffic cone to a 60-foot-tall towering shrine of safety that will go up in flames.

Congrats to Chris and the team. We can’t wait to see photos of Coney McConeyface in action!
