Meta No More

Nov 3, 2025

TLDR:
Kiwiburn IS moving off Facebook and we ARE listening to you – your feedback will help us decide what comes next.

You may have heard the loudish whispers – and the Propaganda is true (we have told you that we only share the truth…) We have announced our intention for Kiwiburn to GTF off Facebook. There are a bunch of very valid reasons for this move, including:

  • FB is a commercial enterprise – it simply doesn’t align with Burner Principles, no matter how you spin it
  • The algorithms are a nightmare. Posts are queued, hidden, or removed without moderator input. Our FB Admin Team has no control or visibility over these actions, but still they cop the backlash from accusations of censorship or bias – which is categorically untrue but happens more and more often (especially when posts get traction)
  • The group is just too big. It’s no longer representative of the community who actually participate in or engage with Kiwiburn. While overseas membership keeps growing, overall engagement has dropped significantly – by around 38% year on year
  • The vibe just isn’t vibing. Many people no longer feel comfortable commenting or sharing views due to the tone of some conversations. The group has become a soapbox for a few rather than a balanced dialogue for many. This isn’t about silencing criticism – we want and we welcome constructive feedback – but we do want a space that’s kind, respectful, and genuinely welcoming.

We DO hear you about the lack of community consultation around this, and the need for feedback on where we go next. So this is us fixing that. Over the next week, we’ll be sending out a link to an anonymous survey for everyone with a Burner Profile (we’ll also share it in the next EFP). This is your chance to tell us what platform you think Kiwiburn should move to, and to share your thoughts on this transition.

We know many of you use FB for other Burn-related things, as well as messages, events, or general updates – and that change can be inconvenient. But we also know plenty of you aren’t on FB at all and have been missing out. (Psssst… you can always get your official and really honestly true info from the EFP each week – no social media required!).

Thanks for sticking with us as we evolve, experiment, and emprove (we know how to spell improve… shhhh).
