Kiwiburn is looking for someone to fill the role of Event Manager: to help hold the operational side of the event together year-round and onsite. Basically: making sure all the moving parts keep moving, and when they stop moving, figuring out why.
You’d be working with Team Leads, Site Management, ExCom, contractors, landowners, emergency services, local stakeholders, and the wider community. A lot of this role is staying across what everyone’s doing, making sure deadlines aren’t quietly dying in forgotten Google Docs, and helping teams solve problems before they become “Oh shit, this is now a crisis.”
During build, event, and pack down, you’ll be onsite helping keep things running. That could mean coordinating infrastructure, checking in with teams, dealing with contractors, supporting emergency responses, communicating decisions, and generally being one of the people others come to when things get weird (which they will).
You’ll also need to care about volunteers. This role isn’t just logistics and compliance paperwork, it’s helping people feel supported, recognised, and not completely cooked by the end of summer.
You should probably have event ops experience, be good under pressure, reasonably organised, and able to talk to both burners and external stakeholders without making either nervous. Knowing Kiwiburn already helps. Knowing Asana, Google Drive, health and safety processes, or emergency response systems also helps.
It’s roughly 2 to 4 hours a week in quieter months, more as January approaches, plus about 4 to 5 weeks onsite.
It’s a big role, but if you enjoy solving complicated problems in a paddock, you’ll probably like it. Apply here.
