Facebook Group rules

The Kiwiburn facebook Group has 10 rules to abide by which have recently been updated. They are all pretty much commonsense, though it is helpful to have clear guidelines in place, for those rare moments when the admins have to take some action. Keep being kind, and read on:

 

1. Be kind and courteous

We’re all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, however, kindness and understanding are required. Educate kindly, don’t ridicule.

2. Respect everyone’s privacy

Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Discussions may be sensitive and private. What’s shared in the group should stay in the group, so please be mindful and respect our community.

3. What can I post? No promos, spam, commodification

Seek a flatmate, sell your vehicle, do NOT promote businesses or events for profit. Nothing illegal. Keep topics relevant to Burner community. More suited to your personal page? Think before you post.

4. No hate speech or bullying

Make sure everyone feels safe to express themselves. Bullying, hate speech or degrading comments about people, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.

5. Posting links

Ensure any attachments or links in your posts are public for all to see, or they will be deleted. Please edit or remove your post if your question has been answered.

6. Photos posted in the Group

Like a photo? Ask the owner for permission before using their image, and credit them. Want a photo you are in removed? Ask the person who posted it to remove it. Or report it to the Group Admins.

7. Engaging with the media

Journalists in this Group do not have the right to quote other members outside of this Group or approach them for interviews. Please be mindful of what you share and respect others’ privacy.

8. Contacting organisers / team leads

If you have a question and are trying to get hold of a volunteer, please do not call them out in the Group. Use the website contact form to reach the department you need.

9. Be on your best social media behaviour

Ask questions-start the conversation; Solve problems -help each other out; Be positive -celebrate other’s posts; Be informed -search for topics. Think before you post, make it count, make it useful.

10. Responding to adverse comments

Use facebook tools to report offensive comments. Do not message moderators or report facebook interactions to the Conduct Committee, which deals only with serious incidents within our community.
