Getting the Zuck outta here

Oct 20, 2025

Alright humans, it’s time. Kiwiburn is moving off Facebook. It’s time to stop feeding the algorithm. Unless you’ve had your head in the sand for the past few years (and we wouldn’t blame you for that), you’ll know that Facebook has become a bit of a cesspit. And not the fun ‘hippie-soup’ kind of cesspit you’ll sometimes find on the Paddock. No, the worst kind of cesspit, one that’s decidedly anti-Burner!.

We could be here all day detailing reasons why Facebook is just not the go anymore, but we’re certain you already know why. Instead, we’ll leave you with a few of the main ones:

  • Facebook doesn’t align with Burner principles (far from it)
  • The algorithm controls all, if it decides not to show you something, good luck seeing it
  • Group admin control means less now than ever – the algorithm now blocks posts it doesn’t like automatically. Even mundane ones that it decides don’t align with their community standards. Usually us admins don’t even get to see them at all, Facebook just yeets them into the ether, yet it comes across as us censoring posts (which we have not been doing)
  • Other events are also moving away from Facebook (even Burning Man doesn’t have an official group)
  • META. ‘Nuff said.
  • The list goes on…

The old group has done its job, but we’re ready for something that actually feels like a community space, not a comment-section dumpster fire.

We’re heading over to Hylo, a not-for-profit and community led social media platform (see why we like it?). It’s a platform built for real connection, chatting, sharing ideas, and sorting stuff out without the endless scroll.

On November 5th (yep, Guy Fawkes night) we’ll archive the Facebook group. The Facebook page itself will still be up, but will continue to be used for announcements only.

Just a note on this: fret not Theme Camps – if you want to post things like fundraiser announcements on the page, you’ll still be able to, you’ll just need to contact us!.

Hylo will be the new home for the fun stuff. That’s where conversations, planning, and the usual chaos will live. We’re still sorting out who can join and how to keep it open to new and international Burners without letting it go feral. Either way, we’re excited to make the move to a community led platform.

If you’ve got ideas on how to make this move smooth, hit us up at, news@kiwiburn.com
It’s time to burn the old and start fresh.

We will share the link for the HYLO page soon, but in the meantime, we encourage you to check out the site over at https://www.hylo.com/ .
