Kinda Important Stuff you Should Probably Know

Jan 15, 2024

We know a bunch of updates have been thrown your way over the past few weeks and it’s a lot to take in, however it’s all really kinda pretty important stuff that you should maybe probably definitely know before you arrive Home.

  • Survival Guide: it’s been waiting for an update for a little while and it’s finally here. We are stoked to share the latest and greatest, most up to datest Survival Guide. A whole lot, but not quite everything you need to know about participating in Kiwiburn and surviving a week on the Paddock, especially if it’s your first time. Check it out! There might be a quiz!
  • Respect the H2O: Water is a precious resource and having drinking water onsite at Kiwiburn is an incredibly unique privilege – please treat it as such. The water available is specifically for drinking, cooking, and cleaning of kitchen bits – not cleaning of your bits, or making swimming pools. We reckon 20L per person, per day is plenty to keep y’all hydrated, fed, and with clean dishes. Please also try and keep grey water to a minimum, and be respectful of where you discard this.
  • Ice ice, baby: is now $6 per bag. We know it’s kind of an awkward number so if you don’t want to hang onto the change from your tenner, you can leave it at Depot as a donation for our latest sustainability initiative, Leftover Love (see below).
  • That C word thing is still a thing: and our Covid policy has been recently updated to reflect the changes to government recommendations. Please do still test before you head to the Paddock – Civic Responsibility (Covid has been spiking recently), put your community first and don’t come if you’re not feeling well.
  • Photography initiative: this year, we’re trialing something new around photography, along with an updated photography policy. Bright yellow rubber wristbands will be available at Gate for anyone who is comfortable to be in photographs or around photographers. The awesome thing about these wristbands is that they can be worn or removed at any point, giving you the flexibility to decide if and when you give consent to be photographed. There will also be a few wristbands at Depot in case anyone wants to pick one up at a later stage. Wristbands will be collected at Exodus and (assuming this initiative is successful) we’ll be reusing them again next year.
  • The Hub update: You filled out the survey and people listened. For the first time ever, The Hub (f.k.a. Centre Camp, an agglomeration of the Paddock’s essential social utilities) is providing a space for performance of all varieties, and those slightly more intimate genres of music.
Though applications for slots have closed for 2024, we are hosting a few on-the-day sign ups – just come along and ask for a stage manager and we’ll see what we can do about getting you up on the stage and shining. Bring your own instruments, borrow from our extensive collection, or check out our workshops among which there will be instrument making! Music is for everyone, this year more than ever.
We’re also hosting the Paddock’s very first Pre-Effigy-Burn FASHION CATWALK on Saturday night! Come peep some fine outfits before they’re stripped off, and/or get in line to strut your stuff honnney. We’re going to keep growing over the next few years, so send any feedback, questions or ideas over to noms at: centrestage@kiwiburn.com
