Volunteering and Ticketing for KB24

Jul 31, 2023

Over the last couple of months, $exCom and the Team Leads have been crunching some numbers on the volunteers we need to run our beloved event, and how many of those volunteers we have.

Newsflash: around 40% of our essential year-round roles are currently vacant.
You may have heard some rumours about this in the last 100+ EFPs and weekly Facebook posts advertising for volunteers…

This means some of our teams are running with anywhere up to half of their roles unfilled. We have an awesome time volunteering with Kiwiburn – we’re here because we love it, we love Kiwiburn and we love you (aw). Right now though we’re also in need of some extra time and energy to make the magic happen.

Tickets for KB24

Because of this and to be fair to the hard working beings who are already giving their time, this year we’re tying ticket numbers to the number of year-round volunteer positions filled. What this looks like:

  • Initially we’ll release 2000 tickets.
  • If enough of our essential roles are filled, we’ll release an extra 400 tickets.
  • The initial 2000 will consist of 1440 reserve tickets (volunteers, theme camps and artists), with 560 being released into the lottery for general purchase.
  • If/when we are able to release the extra 400 tickets, these will be for general purchase and will be allocated via the STEP queue as usual.

So, what do we need? How do I help?? Each week for the next few weeks we’ll feature a Kiwiburn team, what they do and what help they need. Take a look and get in touch when you see something that suits you. And at any time you can see what’s on offer and apply here.

First up is Crew, because we’ll need a hand dealing with the imminent influx of people keen as to offer their skills, time and love* to Kiwiburn!

Got things that bug you? Come help fix them! Got awesome ideas about how we could do things? Come help make them happen! Do it – it’s a fun time and will be even more so with more of you beautiful humans involved!

*Monogamy not required (many of us are also dating other festivals, charities or community projects)… in fact if you’re keen to help, we can discuss your relationship preferences to see if we can meet everyone’s needs.

Crew Department

So what does the Crew dept do exactly?

Besides general fuckery and high-quality* banter, Crew is responsible for putting the systems and support in place to make sure our teams have the right volunteers, and that vols are supported in their roles both year-round and onsite. We wanna make volunteering with Kiwiburn a really awesome experience (psst, it is!).

*quality not guaranteed, we make ourselves laugh though…

Who we need:

  • Crew Facilitator 2iC – working with the Crew Facilitator on big picture thinking, crew projects and helping manage the team and work to Make Volunteering Even Greater.
  • Volunteer Lead and Volunteer Admin Hustler – the volunteer team supports team leads to find and place volunteers, matching knowledge, skills and availability with available roles. No surprises this is one of our top priority areas to fill so we can be more proactive in doing this.
  • Crew Process Wrangler – making it easier for team leads to manage their crews and for vols to navigate their way around the place, working with leads to make our processes simpler and more accessible.
  • Swag Lead – sorting out swag to say thank you! to our vols for all their epic mahi.
  • Kitchen Co-Lead – working in the run up to the burn and onsite to feed and nourish our hard working vols while they build our playground for burn week. (Job description coming soon – keep an eye out if this sounds like you!)

$exCom 2iCs

While we have the utmost faith in our wonderful $exCom Leads, we know everyone needs a little bit of support every now and then, and our Leads are no different. Check out the 2iC roles below and if you reckon you’ve got the knack to become the bestest most badass sidekick in the biz, apply here

  • Arts Facilitator 2iC – This role supports the Arts Facilitator to assist the Kiwiburn community in bringing inspirational, diverse and engaging Art to the Paddock.
  • Theme Camps Facilitator 2iC – This role supports the Theme Camps Facilitator in assisting the Theme Camp, Centre Camp, Events and Sound teams, who in turn help the community to bring a beautiful, eclectic range of camps, activities and experiences to the Paddock.
  • Secretary 2iC – Secretary 2iC supports the Secretary who is keeper and moderator of the ExCom’s activities, as well as the department lead for the year-round Admin and IT Teams.

We have so many ideas on how to make all of this happen better, and the existing team are incredible, warm and hilarious humans. Come pitch in to help us turn our and your ideas into reality!
