It’s Dario here, again, still musing about my first Burn (so frikken cool, you know?) If you’re coming next year, here is my list of items I didn’t bring, things I wish I had, and some stuff that turned out to be more valuable than three tons of mulch:
I should’ve brought
- Something to sit on! In General Camping, having chairs and couches and such is an absolute must!
- Outdoor shade. For the sunny Thursday (remember that? Wild!), having some form of portable shade was an absolute godsend. Never Burn without shade, kiddos.
- My glorious pair of waterproof hiking boots. Just one good pair of wet weather footwear is key! My ten-year-old Magnums were not up to the mahi I demanded of them (RIP)
I didn’t need
- That much food. Seriously. I planned out every meal and spent an entire day in my kitchen pre-Burn making mountains of delicious food. I had to throw a disappointing amount out when I got home (even after giving loads away!).
- Regular clothes. Shorts and a t-shirt didn’t feel like good Paddock attire.
Worth its weight in gold
- Walkie-Talkies: My little camp of four brought along some UHF radios which were perfect for the Paddock! Trying to find someone in the madness can take away from valuable dancing time. These bad boys cost us $40 each and they allowed us to stay flexible and to keep an eye on each other without living in one another’s pockets.
- Carabiner Cup: Saw lots of these around and I would’ve been lost without mine! Good for Paddock hygiene and keeping the wastage down. 10/10 would recommend.
