You may or may not know that Kiwiburn is an incorporated society, and as such, the Kiwiburn organisation follows a set constitution.
Due to a change in legislation, Kiwiburn needs to re-register as a society. This means reviewing the constitution to ensure it meets the new legislation, and if not, it needs to be amended. All Societies have to re-register and file their Constitution with amendments, or without if they think existing rules meet all the new requirements, before April next year. The Societies Registrar will then review them and either accept or decline re-registration.
Any review of Kiwiburn’s governance structure and operations is an entirely separate matter and is not, and should not, be tied to reregistering by April next year. It requires engagement with the entire community and widespread discussion and debate, Then based on the outcome of that process Constitutional changes may need to be proposed and voted on. That will be a lengthy and fully inclusive process.
ExCom wishes to advise the community that they have determined there should be two separate processes:1: Simple registration with minimal amendments2: A separate full community discussion/review on structure and any changes needed to the constitution that arise from those community wide discussions.
This is just a quick message to inform the community that both reregistration and proposed governance and operational reviews are well underway.
Look out for more details in the next EFP!
