Kiwiburn community in lockdown

Mar 29, 2020

New Zealand is a few days into an unprecedented lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and of course the Kiwiburn community is also hunkering down. You all know the rules: Stay home and only leave to undertake essential trips, such as to the grocery store or the pharmacy. Yet in these crazy times, it stands to reason that Burners are already prepared if you apply the 10 Guiding Principles. After all, self isolation calls for Radical Self Reliance and also requires Participation as part of our Civic Responsibility for the greater good.

Having access only to essentials is reminiscent of Decommodification and Communal Effort is required to stay connected with as many people as possible. Gifting in these circumstances might be a phone call, a free online class or workshop and maybe this is a great chance to embrace Immediacy!

These are undoubtedly strange times, and we will all remember this period for the rest of our lives. And while we may not know exactly what will happen, this community will always look after itself and everyone.

Stay safe, stay sane and stay connected!
