Meet Rads – Our new Secretary!

Jun 5, 2023

Guess what? We have found our new Secretary, the most secretarial of secretaries in secretary history. Secretly secretarially skilled Rads has answered the call for skilled secretaries.

To attain the glory and honour that comes with such a role, we put Rads through a series of extremely laborious and difficult tasks, each one more difficult than the last. Starting with delivering a dowry of goats fetched from the heights of Mt Doom and ending with completing a number of personal questions which are extremely tough to answer.

Without further ado, and before I go even further off the rails, here’s Rads’ intro!

Firstly, what does the Secretary role involve?

Secretary is an ExCom role and is one of three required Officer positions on the Kiwiburn Incorporated Societies Register. As the Facilitator (aka Department lead) for our growing IT and admin teams, I’m responsible for supporting our IT and Admin teams and being the Privacy Officer for Kiwiburn.

In turn, our IT and Admin champions provide tech tools, information access and data security for all things Kiwiburn. The role also covers taking minutes for ExCom meetings, Summits and the AGM (Annual General Meeting), and making sure we complete our responsibilities for the Incorporated Societies Register.

How do you spend your time when you are not doing things related to Kiwiburn?

There’s a life outside Kiwiburn? =D

Most days you can find me doing something nerdy, or trying not to fall on my face after a muay thai class.

Being involved with Kiwiburn can take a lot of energy. How do you re-energise?

Kiwiburn is my way of re-energising from the demands of existing in the default world.

Do you have a favourite burn outfit?

I don’t have a single favourite, but the outfits I am drawn to are those that try to respectfully incorporate something that pays homage to my South Asian heritage.

What skills have you learned by being involved with Kiwiburn?

Cat herding! And also project managing a volunteer team. I’ve also learned heaps about how a large society meets the requirements of the New Zealand Incorporated Societies Register.

What has been your favourite moment at a Burn?

The most recent would probably be participating in the People’s Court at #Mudburn23, but that’s only what is top of mind at the moment.

What are you most excited about for Kiwiburn 2024?

The hope that MPW brings back the decorated portaloos… (no pressure, MPW).
