Volunteer team of the week – Infrastructure

Aug 14, 2023

Each week for the next few weeks we’re featuring a Kiwiburn team, what they do and what help they need. Take a look and get in touch when you see something that suits you. And at any time you can see what’s on offer and apply here

(and, a sneaky reminder that this year we’re tying ticket numbers to the number year-round volunteer positions filled. If you missed that post you can read it here.)

This weekInfrastructure Department!

Without Infrastructure we wouldn’t have a functioning playground. They take care of town planning and surveying, designing and bringing to life the layout of our Home for the week.

They’re the first to turn up on site and the last to leave, building everything from Site Office and Depot to composting toilets and worm farms. Infrastructure teams make sure our temporary town has core facilities like toilets, water, drivable roads – even trimming back the thistles by the river for the benefit of your pinkies. And they do it all in reverse after Burn week.

After we’ve all done our own Moop sweeps, they do the final checks to make sure we really do Leave No Trace – finding out who are the clean Paddock superstars and who goes on the wall of shame (which is very small, actually just a couple of stacked bricks).

We need the following year-round roles filled:

  • Town Planning Lead and Town Planning 2iC – this team plans and designs the layout of the Kiwiburn site. These are creative roles where you conjure up the entire Kiwiburn town using the information provided by other teams and stakeholders and put it into the mixing pot of your imagination and knowledge to ensure a functional, vibrant and buzzing community.
  • Surveying Lead and Surveying 2iC – help bring the Kiwiburn map to life on the Paddock. The team use surveying techniques to mark out the site layout designed by Town Planning, to show the road network, location of services and facilities, theme camp boundaries, and art placements – so that we all know where to go and start creating when we arrive onsite.
